We have started picking olives three days ago. Hopefully until now the weather is good, not too warm, not too cold, not rainy. This period is usually very demanding as we have to organize the harvest, to prepare small but important details of every day life, for example what we are going to eat while we are working on the olive groves, and to make sure that the olives will reach the mill under the best conditions.
It seems to be a good year for the olive oil in Greece and we are very curious to smell and taste the fresh olive oil which in Greek is called “Agoureleo” or “Protolado”.
The next few days we will take some shots and we will share them with you. Until then we are keep on the picking!
Our kids love cakes and chocolate. I usually prepare our mother to daughter traditional recipe but I also love new tastes! Last Monday, I decided to experiment with the ingredients. I mixed butter with a small quantity of our orange flavor olive oil. Instead of 125g butter, I put 90g and 40ml olive oil and instead of milk I added orange juice. The result was a flavorful orange cake, full of orange & chocolate aromas. What a nice way to start the week!
250g flour ( + 1 teaspoon baking powder)
125g butter ( or 90g butter & 40ml olive oil)
200g sugar (it’ s too sweet for me, so I usually add 160g)
125ml orange juice
40g bitter chocolate ( I blend it with the mix in order to get a marble cake)
Bake it for 30 minutes at 180 C
